Perceiving is Believing

I was out walking one day and saw a sign that I thought started a little something like this: “Are you or do you know someone who is poignant, if so call…”

It actually said “Are you or do you know someone who is pregnant, if so call…” It was a sign offerening services to pregnant women.

But I thought my misreading was perhaps more telling. Before expounding on what my misreading meant I had to check the dictionary to make sure I wasn’t misrememberstanding poignancy. There was one option that did indeed apply to my line of thought: designed to make an impression.

I went back to my line of musing and wondered: Is anyone I know poignant? My first thought was, well I sure hope so. The world might be a better place if more of us were poignant. So many more of us might have higher self esteem if we felt that we had more poignancy.

And why don’t we have more poignancy? And where does it come from? Is it genetic? Does it come from parenting? Education? Social environs?

Hmmm. I dont’ know. But here’s wishing you poignancy in all that you do.
